So you want to make some changes to your P3 platform Volvo (Such as adding the steering wheel speed limiter or turning on Voice control).
Well, first up your going to need your CEM pin code.
What’s the CEM pin code? It is basically the password that is required in order to make changes to your cars settings.
OK, so how to do you get it ? Here are a few options
- Decode with a DiCE and Vdash , (can take up to 24 Hours).
- Decode with a DiCE and P3Tool, (can take up to 24 Hours).
- Decode with ModUnlock, (less than 6.5Hrs on models from 2010 onwards, older molders are a little slower)
- Visit a Vdash Pro Dealer
- Contact a Vdash pro dealer who can do it remotely
Ok, so now, which one suits you best? , lets explore the methods.
1) Decode with DiCE and Vdash
For this method you are going to need the following :-
- A free account with Vdash
- A DiCE unit
- A Windows laptop to run Vdash
- An Internet connection at your car
- Laptop charger at your car
- Car battery charger
This Process can take ANYTHING UP TO 24 Hours! Yes the decode can take anything up to 24Hrs. It is usually less but, but it is just the luck of the Draw.
Once VDASH has decoded the CEM pin it is stored on the VDASH servers and never revealed to you and Vdash will not reveal it to you.
2) Decode with DiCE and P3Tool
So ok, you are going to need the following :-
- A free account with P3Tool
- A DiCE unit
- A Windows laptop to run P3Tool
- An Internet connection at your car
- Laptop charger at your car
- Car battery charger
This Process can take ANYTHING UP TO 24 Hours! Yes the decode can take anything up to 24Hrs. It is usually less but, but it is just the luck of the Draw.
Once P3Tool has revealed the CEM pin Code you can then use it with P3tool or Vdash or any other program that might be able to use it (Such as SMOK or DHA)
3) Decode with ModUnlock
So ok, you are going to need the following :-
- Modunlock
- Maybe a car battery charger
ModUnlock DOES NOT need internet, DOES NOT need a DiCE, DOES NOT need a laptop, and only sometimes needs a car battery charger.
Modunlock MAXIMUM decode time is 6.5 hours for models from 2010 onwards, but most often we see between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Older models are a little slower.
During the decoding the car is in very low power state , so a battery charger is optional. Also you can pause and resume the decode whenever you like.
Once Modunlock has decoded the CEM pin is is displayed on the OLED screen for you to use with which ever program you prefer.
4) Visit a Vdash Pro Dealer
If you are lucky enough to be able to visit a Vdash Pro dealer , they can offer a CEM decode services. Depending on the Dealer they may or may not be able to give you the CEM pin code to use yourself, or it may be hidden and stored directly with Vdash servers.
Prices vary for this service, but typically in the range of $150 to $250
5) Contact a Vdash pro dealer who can do it remotely
If you have a DiCE and a Windows 10 / 11 64bit laptop, it is possible for a Vdash Pro to remotely decode the CEM pin.
It’s a bit of tricky thing to do, you need internet at the car, the car on charge and remote access to the laptop so the engineer can do the work required to get the CEM pin . This method puts the CEM pin directly in Vdash servers and it is never revealed directly to you.
Prices vary for this service, but typically in the range of $150 to $250
