This is where Modunlock really shines as getting P1 and P2 CEM pin codes is very difficult. Where as P3 CEM pin can be decoded with DiCE and a laptop, P1 and P2 cant. Well…sort of but not really…lets go through the methods.
- Build a Teensy decoder
- Use Modunlock
- Visit a Vdash Pro dealer
- Contact a Vdash pro dealer who can do it remotely
Now lets look at these methods in more detail
1) Build a Teensy decoder
If your very tech savvy or patient you can build your on P1 / P2 CEM pin decoder for around £40 ($30). See these articles here Here and here . The Teensy decoder is used in conjunction with a Laptop to decode the PIN.
However, it really is really beyond most peoples ability.
When I first came across the Teensy Project and decided to build my own there were so many knowledge barriers that I had to over come and an amazingly steep learning curve…… I still couldn’t make it work and i’m pretty good at this sort of thing!
I had to get support from people for more experienced than myself. But eventually …work it did! So there you go, for those that love the idea and the challenge , this is great and the hard work of the group of guys that started it are to be endlessly thanked.
The Teensy decoder will Reveal most P1 and P2 in something like 20 minutes.
2) Use Modunlock
Obviously the teensy project was the inspiration for Modunlock. We just made it easier and faster. ModUnlock is not a teensy in a box….its a Custom PCB and MCU in and written in entirely different programing language with custom code.
Simply plug ModUnlock into the ODB2 port and hit Start and in about 6 minutes the CEM pin code is displayed on its OLED screen. You can then use the Code with whicher ever program or service you have access to.
We say 6 minutes, Well, most P1 and P2 can be decoded at the Fastest speed, but we have found P2 XC90 CEM’s need longer. Mod unlock offers 3 decode speeds for P2 platform cars Fast (6 Mins) , Regular (12 Mins) and Deep (24mins).
No laptop, no internet, no keys! You don’t even have to turn the ignition on.
P1 Euro 5 Engine cars should be decoded as if they area P3
3) Visit a Vdash Pro dealer
If you are lucky enough to be able to visit a Vdash Pro dealer , they can offer a CEM decode services. Depending on the Dealer they may or may not be able to give you the CEM pin code to use yourself, or it may be hidden and stored directly with Vdash servers.
Prices vary for this service, but typically in the range of $250
4) Contact a Vdash pro dealer who can do it remotely
If you have a DiCE and a Windows 10 / 11 64bit laptop, it is possible for a Vdash Pro to remotely decode the CEM pin.
It’s a bit of tricky thing to do, you need internet at the car, the car on charge and remote access to the laptop so the engineer can do the work required to get the CEM pin . This method puts the CEM pin directly in Vdash servers and it is never revealed directly to you.
Prices vary for this service, but typically in the range of $250
